Cheap Things to Do in Toronto This Weekend (Under $20)

You don't need a big budget to have a good weekend in Toronto. The city has free world-class parks, free beaches, free art, and cheap food from nearly every culture on earth. Here's how to fill a full Saturday or Sunday for next to nothing.

Saturday Morning: Kensington Market

Start in Kensington Market — Toronto's most interesting neighbourhood. On Saturday mornings the market is as close as Toronto gets to a European street scene. Grab a coffee from Jimmy's Coffee or Dark Horse, walk the vintage stores (Courage My Love is the best in the city), pick up cheese from Global Cheese, and wander. Budget: $10–15 including coffee and a snack.

Saturday Afternoon: High Park or the Beaches

Two great free options depending on the weather and what you want:

• High Park: 400 acres with trails, a free zoo (bison! peacocks!), Grenadier Pond, cherry blossoms in spring, and the best hilltop views in the west end. Free, always.
• The Beaches: Queen East past Woodbine — 4km of sandy beach on Lake Ontario, a boardwalk, volleyball courts, and a free splash pad at Kew Gardens in summer.

Saturday Evening: Graffiti Alley + Trinity Bellwoods

Walk through Graffiti Alley (Rush Lane, between Queen and Richmond, Portland to Spadina) — it's the best outdoor street art in Canada and completely free. Then head north to Trinity Bellwoods Park. On a Saturday evening, the park is alive — people on blankets, frisbee, acoustic guitars, social picnics. The whole neighbourhood is free to walk and costs nothing.

On a Sunday morning, you can walk from the Rogers Centre area east to the Distillery District entirely along the water. It takes about 90 minutes and costs nothing.

Best Cheap Eats This Weekend

Toronto's food scene is genuinely world-class even at the cheap end. Here's where locals eat when they're watching their budget:
