Shaw Festival Is Coming to Toronto With a New Harbourfront Centre Residency

The Shaw Festival is launching a new multi-year Toronto residency at Harbourfront Centre, beginning with Sleuth and A Christmas Carol in 2026.

Toronto is getting a new recurring theatre destination. The Shaw Festival is launching a multi-year artistic residency at Harbourfront Centre, bringing Shaw Festival productions to Toronto’s waterfront.

The residency opens this fall with Sleuth, followed by A Christmas Carol for the holiday season and another production scheduled for early 2027. It gives the Shaw Festival an ongoing Toronto presence rather than bringing each production in as a one-off tour.

First Up: Sleuth

The Toronto residency begins with Anthony Shaffer’s mystery thriller Sleuth, running October 16 to November 1, 2026 at The Fleck at Harbourfront Centre Theatre, 231 Queens Quay W. Previews are October 16 and 17; the official opening is October 18.

The Residency Continues

Sleuth is the first production in the residency, not a standalone Toronto engagement. A Christmas Carol is scheduled at Harbourfront Centre from November 12 through December 23, 2026.

A third Shaw Festival production is scheduled for January 22 through February 21, 2027. Its title has not yet been announced, so this guide will be updated when Harbourfront Centre confirms the production.

Why This Matters for Toronto

The partnership gives the Shaw Festival an ongoing presence in Toronto instead of bringing individual productions into the city as isolated touring engagements. For local audiences, it adds a recurring theatre option on the waterfront and makes Shaw Festival productions accessible without a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake.
