Toronto takes its patio season seriously. After a winter that runs from October to April, the first genuinely warm Friday in May produces a city-wide scramble for outdoor seating. By June, every good patio in the city has a wait — here's which ones are worth it.
Consistently the best rooftop in the city — 18th floor, panoramic downtown views, excellent cocktail programme, and a pool on the terrace in summer. The drawback: bottle-service pricing and a very particular crowd. Make a reservation. Dress the part. The view east over the city from the pool deck is as good as a rooftop gets in Toronto.
The rooftop bar at the Bisha Hotel does Latin-Mediterranean food with one of the better cocktail lists in the city. The vibe is boutique hotel rather than nightclub — more relaxed than Lavelle, slightly more affordable, and the food is genuinely worth ordering. Views south toward the lake are excellent.
Technically a courtyard patio rather than a rooftop, but one of the most atmospheric outdoor bars in Toronto — cobblestone Distillery setting, outdoor fire pits, and an excellent tequila and mezcal list. Popular with tourists and locals alike. The food matches the bar.
The largest waterfront patio in the city. Multi-level deck right on Lake Ontario, with their own craft beers brewed on-site and a solid food menu. Absolutely packed on summer weekends — go on a weekday afternoon if you want space. The lake view is legitimately beautiful.
The patio here sits right across from Harbour Square Park with clear lake views. This is the premium option — prices are serious but so is the quality. Good for a celebration, not a casual Tuesday night out.
Multi-level Latin cocktail bar on King West. The rooftop terrace is small but excellent — the best cocktails in the area and a more sophisticated crowd than some of the surrounding strip. Reservations recommended for the rooftop; walk-ins possible for the main floor patio.
Famous for brunch, but the patio dinner service is excellent and significantly less crowded than the weekend brunch rush. The courtyard patio has a neighbourhood feel, perfect for lingering. The food is genuinely very good.
The best traditional pub patio in Yorkville — British pub vibes, excellent beer selection, street-level people-watching in one of the city's best neighbourhoods for it. Gets very busy on summer weekday evenings.
Patio season tip Most Toronto patios don't take reservations — walk-in lineups are the norm. Show up at 4–5pm on weekdays to skip the evening rush. On weekends, either be at the door at opening time (usually noon) or go late (after 8pm) when the first wave turns over.

For the most popular spots (Lavelle, Amsterdam Brewhouse on weekends, Baro's rooftop), advance reservations are strongly recommended. Many neighbourhood patios are walk-in only. Coming at opening time or mid-afternoon on weekdays usually means no wait.
