The Distillery District is the most photogenic neighbourhood in Toronto. It's a 13-acre pedestrian-only village built on the preserved Victorian industrial architecture of the old Gooderham and Worts Distillery — once the largest distillery in the British Empire. Today it's galleries, restaurants, shops, and a genuinely beautiful place to spend a few hours.
The Distillery District is at 55 Mill Street, east of downtown. Best accessed by the 65 Parliament streetcar from King Street (the Distillery stop is right at the entrance). Walking from Union Station takes about 25 minutes along the waterfront path — pleasant in good weather. Paid parking is available on Mill Street but the district gets congested on weekends.
Photography tip The best shots are in Case Goods Lane and along Trinity Street in the early morning. The brick buildings create natural tunnels that look spectacular with people walking through them. Come when the light hits the west-facing walls around 4–6pm.
The Distillery District is close to the St. Lawrence Market (10-minute walk north), the Waterfront (10 minutes south), and the historic Corktown neighbourhood. It makes natural sense as part of an eastern downtown walking itinerary that hits all three.
