About the event

Looking for something different to do in Toronto on a Friday night? The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is welcoming visitors to a special evening of art, creativity and culture—and admission is free.

The gallery celebrates the launch of its Fall 2026 exhibition season on Friday, October 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT. Guests can explore the new exhibitions before they open for regular public visits the following day.

At Harbourfront Centre on Toronto's waterfront, this season brings together immersive installation, painting, photography, film, sculpture and new commissions. The artists' projects consider identity, cultural memory, environmental change, migration and relationships between people and place.

Admission is free, but advance RSVP is required. Reserve through the organizer's [official Eventbrite registration page](https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/fall-2026-opening-celebration-at-the-power-plant-tickets-2002237694844). What to expect at the Fall Opening

Zadie Xa with Benito Mayor Vallejo: an immersive world of art and storytelling

Vancouver-born, UK-based artist Zadie Xa is presenting Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything with longtime collaborator Benito Mayor Vallejo. Painting, sculpture, sound and large-scale installation draw on mythology, folklore, cultural identity and the natural world, inviting visitors to consider how people connect with stories and environments.

Sharon Lockhart: *Fogo*

Internationally recognized artist Sharon Lockhart brings Fogo, a project developed through work on Newfoundland's Fogo Island. Photography and film consider landscape, community and the people who inhabit a place. The presentation includes the photographic series *Fogo Island Portrait Studio* and the film *WINDWARD*.

*Owner of a Lonely Heart*: an 80-minute film program

This moving-image program features work by Haig Aivazian, Stephanie Comilang, Alia Farid, Hope Pearl Strickland and Yuyan Wang. The films explore connections between people, economies, labour, natural resources and movement across the world.

The complete program runs approximately 80 minutes. The opening celebration lasts two hours, so plan your time if you hope to see the full program as well as the exhibitions. A particular screening start time or uninterrupted screening during the celebration has not been confirmed.

Ella Gonzales: *A Room's Proportion, above or below*

Filipina-Canadian artist Ella Gonzales presents a site-responsive installation developed for The Power Plant's Fleck Clerestory Commission Program. Painted fabric and architectural references explore remembered spaces and how places from the past shape our understanding of the present.

Sami Tsang: *What We Carry Forward*

Sami Tsang's new commission for the Smokestack Commission Program combines an expansive mural, ceramic elements and imaginative figures. Drawing on personal memories and storytelling traditions, the work considers what people inherit from earlier generations.

Morgan Sears-Williams: *feeling along the edges*

Morgan Sears-Williams takes over The Power Plant's South Facade Billboard with feeling along the edges, a project attentive to Toronto's waterfront landscapes, the changing environment of the Toronto Islands and the role of public space in community life.
