A guided hour, not a haunted house.

The Haunted ROM Tour takes ghost stories into a museum setting: the subject is the lore, its telling, and the place where visitors hear it.

This is a public, one-hour tour conducted in English. The ROM describes it as a tour about the Museum’s haunted history and ghost stories. That framing matters: a story can be compelling without becoming evidence. The tour’s subject matter is folklore and accounts associated with the Museum; this guide makes no claim that ghosts or paranormal activity are real.

Think of it as a themed museum visit rather than a scare attraction. The setting is the Royal Ontario Museum, and the point is to listen, look, and consider how a place acquires stories. It is not described as a haunted house, a maze, or a staged sequence of scares. Choose it for an hour of guided storytelling within the Museum’s world, not for actors jumping out in the dark.

THE DISTINCTION

Ghost stories are the tour’s material—not proof of paranormal activity.

Who it may suit

The ROM recommends the tour for ages 8 and up. An adult must accompany any child aged 14 or younger. That is the published guidance to use when deciding whether the story-led format fits your group. The recommendation does not tell you how any individual child will respond, so consider your own group’s comfort with ghost-story subject matter.

The fee is only one part of admission.

The tour costs $5 per person, in addition to regular ROM admission. The tour fee does not replace Museum admission: budget for both. Check the official ROM ticket information for admission options and current purchase details, and the specific date link below for the tour’s own listing. This guide does not assume that a session can be booked in advance or that walk-up places are available; confirm the current instructions directly with the Museum.

Meet on Level 1 in Gloria Chen Court, in front of the Futalognkosaurus. It is a specific indoor meeting point, so allow time to orient yourself after entering the Museum and find the named court and dinosaur display. The meeting point is not a street entrance or a separate attraction address. If your group is joining the tour, make sure everyone knows the location before separating to explore.

The schedule below shows the ROM’s listed dates and times. Each active session links to its own official listing, where you can check its date-specific information. Dates and times are displayed in Toronto local time. In particular, November 1 falls after the daylight-saving time change, so those times are local standard time. A date appearing here is not a guarantee of remaining availability; use the Museum’s listing for current status.

These are public listings rather than member-only sessions. The schedule shows each public start time separately because more than one session may run on the same day. If a specific ROM page or the calendar changes its listing, follow the Museum’s latest information; these dates describe what was posted when this guide was checked.

Because regular admission is separate, this works best as one part of a Museum visit rather than a stand-alone ticket assumption. The tour itself is one hour. Plan the rest of your visit around your own interests and the admission terms on the ROM’s official site; no additional route, tour content, accessibility details, or booking conditions are implied here.

For a simple budget check, count the $5 tour fee for each person taking the tour, then account separately for each visitor’s regular Museum admission under the ROM’s current terms. The tour price is not an all-in admission price. If you are comparing it with another Halloween activity, compare like with like: this is a short guided museum experience, while a haunted house is a different kind of attraction and is not what this listing describes.

For families, the age recommendation and accompaniment rule are separate pieces of guidance: ages 8 and up are recommended, and children 14 or younger need an adult with them. For a mixed-age group, decide together whether ghost stories are a good fit, then check that the group can meet at Gloria Chen Court at the selected time. This is practical planning, not a promise about the stories’ intensity or suitability for every visitor.

Not the ROM’s After Dark programme.

The public Haunted ROM Tour is distinct from the ROM’s separately ticketed After Dark events. Both All Hallow’s Eve and Trick or Treat are 19+ evening events on October 30 and 31, respectively—not versions of this daytime tour. Their programme, age restriction, hours, and price are different.

All Hallow’s Eve is listed for October 30, from 7:30 to 11 p.m., at a $40 regular price, with live music, DJs, dancing and a complimentary drink. Trick or Treat is October 31, also 7:30 to 11 p.m. and $40 regular price; its listed programme includes eerie projections, large inflatables, live performances, DJs, food and drinks, dancing and a complimentary beverage. Both events are for guests 19 and older. These are event-night programmes, not activities included in the one-hour public tour.
