What Malibu Barbie Café actually is

Malibu Barbie Café is not a regular coffee shop that happens to use a lot of pink. It is a ticketed immersive experience that combines themed dining, interactive installations, exclusive merchandise, and a limited-time outdoor roller rink in one downtown Toronto pop-up.

Created by Bucket Listers in partnership with Mattel, the Toronto experience marks the brand’s Canadian debut at 70 The Esplanade. The historic brick-and-beam setting has been transformed into a deliberately over-the-top celebration of 1970s Malibu Barbie and California beach culture.

What you’ll find inside

The café is designed around movement, photo moments, and nostalgic details rather than a quick meal at a normal table. Guests can explore a series of Barbie-themed environments before, during, or after their reserved dining time.

  • A life-size Barbie box for a full-scale doll-box photo.
  • The Barbie Dream Cam interactive photo experience.
  • A lifeguard chair, wave arch, retro Malibu décor, and beach-inspired installations.
  • Exclusive merchandise created for the Malibu Barbie Café experience.
  • Selected programming such as cupcake decorating, build-your-own sundaes, paint parties, and themed events. Dates vary.

The menu and what your ticket includes

Chef Becky Brown developed the Toronto food program around familiar diner and brunch-style dishes with a Barbie-inspired spin. The verified Toronto highlights currently include Pacific Paradise Pancakes, West Coast Wave Salad, and Tubular Tenders, alongside desserts, specialty drinks, and other Barbie-themed treats.

Standard admission currently includes 90 minutes of reserved seating, a CA$10 food credit, and a CA$5 merchandise credit per guest. The credits are individual, cannot be pooled or exchanged for cash, and have exclusions: the food credit does not apply to drinks or the ice-cream float, with some dessert exclusions also possible.

  • Tickets currently start at approximately CA$41.54 including fees, but pricing can change.
  • Do not treat the listed dishes as a complete permanent Toronto menu.
  • Check the official booking page for the current ticket total and session availability.

The Impala x Barbie roller rink

The outdoor Impala x Barbie Skate Rink is an optional add-on during a reserved café visit. Guests can bring their own skates, and skate passes may be available onsite, but skating is weather dependent because the rink is outdoors.

Socks are required. Skaters under 12 need a helmet and a parent or guardian nearby, while the recommended skating age is five and up. Skate-related proceeds support Girls Inc.; the current booking language is not clear enough to publish a definitive total skate-pass price.

Plan your visit

Book ahead rather than treating Malibu Barbie Café as a walk-in restaurant. Bucket Listers sells multiple timed-entry sessions, and the available times, special programming, and ticket pricing can change during the run.

  • All ages are welcome; children under two do not require a ticket.
  • Children must remain accompanied by an adult inside the experience.
  • Everyone in the party should be present at check-in.
  • Sales are generally final, and unused spots or no-shows are not refundable.
  • Photo installations are display pieces; do not climb, sit, lean on, or physically interact with them unless they are specifically designed for that use.
  • Check the booking calendar instead of relying on standard restaurant hours.

Getting to 70 The Esplanade

The café is in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood near Church Street, making it easy to pair with St. Lawrence Market, Berczy Park, the Hockey Hall of Fame, or a walk from Union Station. The 121 Esplanade–River bus serves the area and connects with Union Station.

King Station and Union Station are both within walking distance. Union also connects with GO Transit, VIA Rail, and UP Express. Paid public parking is available nearby at the Green P St. Lawrence Garage at 2 Church Street; transit is recommended over assuming the café has dedicated parking.

The WTF Toronto take

This is not really a café you casually wander into for coffee. It is a ticketed Barbie experience that happens to include a restaurant, and the strongest reason to go is the complete package: photogenic sets, nostalgic details, themed food, exclusive merchandise, and an outdoor rink in the middle of downtown.

Families will get plenty of photo opportunities, while the themed programming and skating give adults a reason to go without needing to borrow somebody’s kid as camouflage. Because the run ends November 1, booking ahead matters more than finding the perfect spontaneous café stop.
