The network of ravine trails behind the Brick Works takes you deep into the Don Valley — an actual wilderness trail system within 3km of downtown Toronto's core that feels like you've left the city entirely. The Don River, original floodplain forest, and towering ravine walls make this one of those places Toronto uses as a punchline for visitors who thought it was just concrete.
Area: Evergreen Brick Works / Don Valley · Address: Don Valley Trail, Evergreen Brick Works, Toronto, ON M4W 3X8 · Best time: Fall colours (October)
Insider tip
The Brickworks to Bloor Viaduct trail — walking north up the Don Valley — is one of Toronto's best walks. Allow 2 hours for the full out-and-back. In October the ravine is peak fall colour. You can combine this with a visit to the Saturday market at the Brick Works and make a half-day of it.
Getting there
From Broadview subway: City shuttle bus to the Brick Works on Saturdays. Or bike/walk the Don Valley Trail — accessible from Bloor Viaduct via stairs. Trails also accessible from Pottery Rd off the DVP.
