PATH Underground Art Installations

The PATH underground shopping network (30km of tunnels connecting 75+ buildings) is technically well-known — but the public art program scattered throughout it is not. Murals, sculptures, light installations, and site-specific artworks are commissioned annually by the City of Toronto and hidden in corridors, concourses, and transit connections that most people walk through looking at their phones.

Insider tip

The sections under First Canadian Place (King & Bay) and the Bay Adelaide Centre have the most ambitious and interesting works. Pick up a PATH map from the Visitor Information Centre at Union Station and look for the small art markers on the map — there's a full curatorial program that most of the 200,000 daily PATH users have never consciously noticed.

Getting there

Any downtown subway station connects to the PATH. Union Station is the main hub. Access points are clearly marked with the orange P-A-T-H letters at most downtown buildings.
