The City of Toronto runs it, so admission is cheap — often cheaper than a cocktail at the bars two blocks away. The costume guides are genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Request the tour of the servant's quarters — it's the most interesting part of the house and tells a completely different story than the grand rooms upstairs.
Getting there
Subway to Dupont (Line 1 Spadina branch), then a 5-minute walk south on Spadina Rd. Or bus 127 Davisville to Spadina Rd stop. The museum is set back from the street in a large garden property.
