Why Visit

Drag performers who headline here are local legends—and you’ll actually get to see them up close. If you're curious about Toronto’s LGBTQ+ community or just want a fun, welcoming night out, this is the place to meet both first-timers and regulars alike.

What Makes It Unique

No other bar in Toronto has nightly drag shows with this level of energy or history—some of the city’s biggest drag names got their start on this stage. The décor changes seasonally, thanks to a dedicated in-house designer, so it rarely looks or feels the same from month to month. Few venues in the Village pull in as diverse a crowd, from 19-year-old newbies to old-guard regulars.

Woody's and Sailor has been the anchor of Toronto's Church-Wellesley Village since 1989 — the longest continuously operating LGBTQ+ venue in the city and one of the most important in Canada. The bar occupies two connected spaces: Woody's, the larger main room with multiple bars and the famous "best bartender" contests, and Sailor, the smaller, more intimate second room. Together they host Toronto's most consistent drag programming, with performances multiple nights per week.

The interior design is a genuine feature — a full-time designer changes the seasonal decor throughout the year, from Pride rainbow installations to Halloween transformations to winter holiday themes. The crowd is mixed, welcoming, and diverse in age and identity. The history matters: this is where Toronto's modern drag and queer performance culture was built, and where it continues to evolve. The bar has been featured in international press as a model of inclusive nightlife, and it remains essential to understanding Toronto after dark.
